Achievement Check Practice

On February 4th we will have our final Achievement Check so in the next lesson (1/28) we will practice both reading and listening. For the practice, we will listen to a radio news report called “Caffeine Boosts Long-term Memory” and read a magazine article titled “How Egyptian God Bes Gave the Christian Devil His Looks”. In the comments, please make a prediction about what we might hear in the listening and read in the text.

    For the listening, we might hear about how highly caffeinated beverages such as coffee not only make us feel awake and energized (commonly known by many), but also improves our long-term memory (new information).
    For the reading, as the title suggests, we will read about the influence the visuals of the Egyptian God made to a completely different area of art – Christianity.

    I think will hear about the effect of the caffeine to our memories. It might say that the caffeine gives good effect to our brain and improves our memory. For the reading, we will learn about the historical facts about how the Egyptian idea influenced the Christianity.

    I think in the listening, we will listen about how caffeine boosts our brain functions and what we can eat or drink to consume caffeine.
    I’ve read that Bes is the Egyptian God of War and Dance. Judging from the fact that it kind of looks like the devil we know and that he looks like a brutal god of war, we will listen to how the christianity took influence from a different religion.

    In the listening, I think we will listen about how caffeine is effective in memorizing things. For the reading, I think it is about how Egyptian culture influenced Christianity. As an example, I think we will read about the connection between Bes and Christian Devil.

    In the listening, as it is referred to in the title, I think we will hear about how caffeine affects our memorization skills. The only thing I know about caffeine is that it doesn’t make you sleepy so I’m interested. In the reading, I presumably think that we will be reading about a part of Egyptian culture giving influence to Christianity. As it is about image, it reminds me of the story about Coca-cola advertisements giving people the image of Santa Claus as “a plump white-bearded man with red clothings”.

    I think in the listening we will hear about the relationship between Caffeine and our memories. And in the reading we might learn about how the thougt of ancient Egyptian affected Christianity.

    In the listening, as it mentions in the title, we would presumably hear about caffeine and the connection between it and the brain cortex that has got to do with memory.
    For the reading, we would read about how Bes gave great impact to Christianity.

    In the listening section , I think we will hear some story about how caffeine affects our brain so we get much stronger memory . In the reading , we may read a historical story that tells us how Christian had a idea of evil.

    As for the listening, we will most likely hear about the effects of caffeine on our brain. The title says that caffeine boosts our long-term memories, so obviously it will explain about that.
    The reading might be about how non-Christian religions like Egyptian gods affected the formation of Christian religion.

    For the listening, I am predicting to hear the connection between caffeine and our memory, and how it functions in our brain. As for the reading, I think it’ll be about the relation between the two very-seemingly-opposite culture; Culture of Eygptians and that of Christians. I’m expecting to hear how the Egyptian god gave christians a great influence.
