Achievement Check 1

For the achievement check next week, you will have one listening component and one reading component. Look at both of the questions below and answer one of them in the comments.

1. The listening component is named “Music and the Mind”. What do you expect to hear? Is there anything you can share with us about music and/or our minds?

2. The reading component is an opinion article from a British magazine covering the topic of globalization. What do you expect to read about? Is there anything you can share with us about different opinions on globalization?

    1. I expect to hear the correlation between music and our minds. In other words, it will be about how different kinds of music evokes different kinds of feelings and emotion. I’ve heard before that listening to classical music such as Mozart’s composition during the early stage in life makes people more intelligent. Catchy music can make you happy or want to dance along. I think music plays a big role in creating an atmosphere and mood for the listener.

    1. I expect to hear about the connections between music and minds. I think music influences our minds. When we listen to sad songs, we tend to feel sad too. When we listen to a tune with a quick tempo, we tend to move fast. I heard that it is a good thing to listen to classic songs while studying, because they help you concentrate.

    1. I have heard that if you listen to Mozart while studying mathematics , the effectiveness of studying increases than if you don’t. So I think we will hear some stories that teach us how music helps us learning not only mathematics but also other subjects.

    2. The magazine might discuss the problems globalization caused in Britain. Some of the problems might be the treatment of foreigner workers and the crisis of local industries.
    In a way, globalization is good because you’re able to buy things that you otherwise won’t be able to get. However, there is the risk of the national industries going bankrupt so you can’t easily say whether globalization is good or not.

    2. Globaliztion has brought changes in various ways. The article might be about changes that globalization has caused in a specific fields.Also it might be how globalization itself had changed. In Wolrd History class, my teacher taught that globaliztion started in the 15c, by Spain. It`s 21c now so I guess that globaliztion itself has changed somehow, too .

    1. I think we will be hearing something about what music does to our minds. For example, in my case rock and hard kind of music let me forget about many things that I don’t want to thinik about, and soft music may relax our minds. So we might be hearing about some sort of experiment done about this topic

I have heard that people who play musical instruments are clever since they have to read ahead of the notes you are currently playing, so the listening component may be about music and how it develops our mind and/or brain. It also may be about music and how it affects our mind, and then our mood.

    1. From the title, I expect to hear some correlationship between music and minds. This, for instance, maybe something like listening to fast tempo music while doing some activities. I have heard of the news that listening to classical music helps people to calm their selves and concentrate. The sound from the music box maybe another factor for relaxation. On the other hand, some people find listening to rock is rather more irritating nd uncomfortable. So I am guessing that the listening material will provide us some more examples of musics that affects our minds.

    I expect to hear about how music influences our minds. Music has a great impact in our ordinary life, for example, when we’re feeling down, up-beat songs can make you somewhat cheerful. Also, when studying, it is said that classical music improves your concentration. I think we will hear more of these examples.

    1. I think we will hear about how music effect our minds easily, and the way to make use of that fact. If music is on, it is difficult to try not to listen to it; it just gets into your ears. Since it is imaginable that music we hear gives certain change to our minds, like if a slow music was on we get relaxed and maybe sleepy, there might be places where they use the background music to partly control the people’s minds there.

    1.I expect to hear about what kind of music or sound waves are related to what emotions. A lot of people feel something from the music they hear, even if they don’t understand the lyrics of the song, or is influenced by instrumental music they hear.

    1. I think we will hear how music stimulates our brain in a good way. Also, I think we might hear that the music can control our emotions so easily that we never recognize being controled.

    1. Judging from the title, I think the listening would be about what music does to our mind. I love listening to music and when I’m happy, I wanna hear happy songs.

    1. I think we will hear about how music has an effect on our minds. I personally think that music has power to heal and cheer us up. For example, music can make us feel better because of its soothing melody. Also we get an empathy with the song when the lyrics are explaining exactly how we feel.
